Tyler grew up in Northeast Indianapolis, and graduated with honors from Lawrence North High School. He continued his studies in Classical Trombone at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington with Professor Carl Lenthe. Throughout college he performed with many various ensembles, as well as the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps from La Crosse, Wisconsin.
After University he had to decide between moving to a major metropolitan area, or staying in Indiana to take the next step in his career. He decided to stay ‘home’ and further his career in the culturally diverse, and artistically talented landscape that is Central Indiana.
His career accomplishments have involved teaching in his own private studio , where his students have gone on to achieve success in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble, ISSMA All-State Honor Band, and various collegiate auditions. His students have gone on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Jacobs School of Music, and Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, among others.
Heavily involved in the Marching Arts Community, he has also enjoyed a successful career at Center Grove High School, one of the premier marching band programs in the world, as a part of the Brass and Visual Staff. Center Grove Placed 13th at the Bands of America Grand National competition in 2018. Currently, he is a part of the brass staff at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, a perennial Grand National Finalist and recurring ISSMA Class A State Champion.
He has enjoyed a rich performing career in addition to teaching. He can be regularly seen Freelancing in Indianapolis, and on the substitute list for many orchestras in the Midwest. Notably, he enjoyed a very successful career as the Principal Trombonist in The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra for five seasons.
He can be seen outside of music spending time with his fiancé, Sierra, and their two dogs, Louie and Pickles. They enjoy many weekends adventuring in the gorgeous State Parks of Indiana, or curled up on the couch with a Stephen King book.
